The Negev Highland Trail was marked with an idea of making hiking in the Negev Desert possible for everyone who seeks to explore the Israeli desert has to offer. With the aim of connecting communities and travelers, the Negev Highland Trails starts in Mitspe Ramon and ends at Merhav Am, passing the unrecognized Baeduins' villages, Kibbutz, Settlement and more.
Not only great views, on this few days, the trail offers a lot more. From archeological sites to a great oasis, high cliffs or deep valleys although with a great cultural adventure and sleeping in places you won't find easily. Herds of sheep, shacks in the middle of nowhere and extreme hospitality… quite frankly, they are hard to miss. 

This trail doesn't inquire carrying any heavy outdoor gears. All logistics, accommodation, food and water, supply by Wild-Trails. We take care of your needs so you could travel light and not worry about heavy loads.

Day - 1

You’ll depart from the Dead Sea Adventure Hostel at the morning, and start moving forward towards Kidod Canyon (Wadi Kidod).

From there continue on to “Desert Time” lookout point, and continue along the upper Ze’elim canyon. We’ll end the day at the Birkat Zfira camping spot. Our logistics team will make sure all your gear is ready for camping.

The camping spot seats just above the Ze’elim canyon, and is great to enjoy a good stargazing.


Walking distance: 14.5 kilometers / 9 miles

Total ascending distance: 223 meters / 0.14 miles

Total descending distance: 441 meters / 0.27 miles

Day - 2

The second day will start by taking a bath at Birkat Zfira, a pool on a cliff in the middle of the desert.

Who would believe right?

The refreshing water combined with the morning vista of the canyon is all you need to start the day.

Walking the heights of the Judean desert, the trail will take you towards Gorni lookout point, accompanied by the grand views of the desert around us.

From there you’ll have a chance to descend to Aneva canyon, one of the most impressive canyons of the Judean desert. Crossing the canyon you’ll come across some natural water sources.

The day will come to an end by climbing through one of the roman outposts on the way to Massada.

In the end you’ll reach the camping ground on the slopes of Massada, and again, our loyal logistics team will make your stay all the more enjoyable.

Total length of ascending: 555 meters / 0.345 miles

Day - 3

For the final day you’ll begin by climbing towards Massada to get a good look on the sunrise shedding light over the Dead Sea valley and the Edom mountains of Jordan.

From Massada continue along the cliffs of the Judean desert, cross canyons, go down to one of the most beautiful oasis the desert has to offer, and conclude your journey bathing in the waters of the Dead Sea.

Total length of ascending: 540 meters / 0.335 miles

Total length of descending: 0.565 miles
