Mountanieering and Avalanche Rescue Course

Mountain lover? It’s time to step up your game and take your mountaineering skills to the next level. If you want to climb a mountain, you better do it right!

The intensive avalanche and mountaineering training will take you to the heart of the ever impressive, snowy Tatra Mountains. Led by the best of guides, all certified professionals, the program will take you through the snow, ice, crevasses, the snowy peaks and everything in between, all the while providing you invaluable, life saving knowledge. Among other useful tools, you will learn how to use properly the various professional tools, how to protect yourself in extreme conditions (mountains are no picnic!), how to prevent accidents, and more importantly, what to do once you run into trouble.

This training program is not an easy one… but who doesn’t love a good challenge?


If you ever wanted to reach a peak or two, or even if you already made a few expeditions in your life, this is your chance to hone your skills and acquire practical knowledge to make your expeditions all the more memorable. All the while enjoying top of the line guides and training.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 - CRACOW

We will meet in the evening in Cracow and enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Accommodation: hostel in the city center.


DAY 2 - ZAKOPANE

Transport to Zakopane with a local public bus. Free day in the Capital of Tatra Mountains.

Optional skiing, snowboarding, cable car to Kasprowy Wierch, variety of local culture - museums, shops, restaurants, bars.

Accommodation: hostel in Zakopane in the traditional Tatra wooden hut.


DAY 3 - AVALANCHE AND MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

Leaving Zakopane and driving towards the entrance to the Tatra National Park. Snow hike on one of the most beautiful valley on the High Tatra Mountains.
After checking in at our mountain lodge far away from civilization and lunch it’s time to start our White adventure!
Get ready to be cold, wet and frozen! We are at mountaineering adventure! Let’s take our headlamps and explore the area by foot.
After getting familiar with the surroundings we will seat in cosy wooden hut and have the the first introductory lecture for avalanche training and distribution of equipment.

DAY 4 - AVALANCHE AND MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

Are you ready? This day we will learn a lot!

We will start with theory about the search in avalanche with use of LVS detectors, type of buried possibilites: single, shallow and deep and probing after LVS tracking (finding location). After that we will divide on small groups and practise all the morning topics. After the lunch is a right time to acquire more knowledge. We will learn about avalanche and mountaineering, have an introduction for the tour the following day, and get familiar with the equipment

DAY 5 - AVALANCHE AND MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

We will enjoy the next full day of avalanche and mountaineering training. Today we will do our first mountaineering climbing during which we will practise the bases for winter tourism, walking in crampons and ice ax braking. We will use in practise our knowledge on the danger of avalanches.

Depends of the weather and avalanche conditions we will choose one of those peaks:

  • Zawrat 2159 m.a.s.l., Świnica 2301 m.a.s.l. (vertical elevation 500-700 m)
  • Kozi Wierch 2291 m.a.s.l., Orla Perć (vertical elevation 600-1000 m)

After the dinner we will participate the lectures of the mountains, winter equipment, theory of operation of the equipment (rope, carabiners), learning knots etc.

DAY 6 - AVALANCHE AND MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

This is our last full training day during which we will do our second mountaineering hike. During the trip we’ll practice exercises with rope, belay (secured technical path) on a glacier field and drawing out  from the crevasse.

Depends of the weather and avalanche conditions we will choose one of those peaks:

  • Szpiglasowy Wierch 2172 m.a.s.l. (vertical elevation 500-600 m)
  • Krzyżne 2112 m.a.s.l. (vertical elevation 500-600 m)

After dinner it's time for the last knowledge portion - we will participate the lectures on mountains and Tatra mountains, and learn about accidents and rescue of professional rescue team TOPR (Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue)

DAY 7 - ZAKOPANE - CRACOW

Today is time to say goodbye to this amazing Valley - after breakfast we will hike down to Łysa Polana and take a mini bus to Zakopane and a public bus to Cracow. After enjoying free time in the city we will meet in Kazimierz (the Old Jewish District) which is a heart of the city for locals, with the best cafes, bars, clubs and magic atmosphere.

DAY 8

Flying back home ;(

What I need to take:

→ Warm mountain shoes with vibram outsole, over the ankle
→ Warm clothing for the operation in the winter mountains in adverse conditions: down jacket, jacket with a membrane such as Gore-Tex, fleece or softshell, trekking trousers, thermoactive underwear
→ Goggles, cap or scarf in Buff type
→ Telescopic poles, trekking gaiters (optional)
→ At least three pairs of gloves (2x warm 1x lighter)
→ Headlamp
→ Sunglasses and sunscreen
→ Backpack in which we can pack the entire stay
→ Thermos
→ Flip flops or light shoes for walking in the mountain lodge
→ Cash for personal expenses
→ Documents (passport)


Price includes:

→ Avalanche and Mountaineering training with the english speaking professionals.
→ English-speaking Wild-Trails adventure leader.
→ 2-way satellite communication device for any kind of emergency event that might happen (will be held by the trip leader).
